Position Summary

Charter Mechanical Contractors is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Mechanical Estimator to join our Pre-Construction team. This position plays a critical role in the successful pursuit and execution of mechanical and process piping projects by developing accurate, competitive, and comprehensive cost estimates.

Working under the direction of the Pre-Construction Manager, the Mechanical Estimator will review project documents, perform quantity take-offs, analyze labor and material costs, evaluate vendor and subcontractor proposals, and assist in preparing project bids and proposals. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    • Review drawings, specifications, and project scopes to develop accurate cost estimates.
    • Perform quantity take-offs for mechanical, process piping, HVAC, and plumbing systems utilizing drawings and 3D models.
    • Develop labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor cost estimates.
    • Analyze and compare vendor and subcontractor quotations.
    • Assist in the preparation of project bids, budgets, and customer proposals.
    • Identify constructability concerns, value engineering opportunities, and potential project risks.
    • Track cost trends and maintain current pricing information.
    • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, procurement teams, and operations personnel during the estimating process.
    • Utilize estimating software, Excel, and company management systems to prepare and maintain estimates.
    • Support continuous improvement efforts within estimating and pre-construction operations.

Qualifications

Required

    • Experience in construction estimating and/or the mechanical construction industry.
    • Strong ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, and scopes of work.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and estimating software.
    • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
    • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred

    • Experience with mechanical, process piping, HVAC, or plumbing construction projects.
    • Familiarity with 3D model navigation and quantity take-off software.
    • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Construction Engineering Management, Mechanical Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field.
    • Previous estimating experience in commercial, industrial, or manufacturing construction environments.
